Disclaimer: This post contains a stupid mistake that may make you shake your head!
This weekend, I stayed at the dorm and on Friday night, instead of going out to a party, I was the lame-o who decided to stay in and dye my hair. =D
I like to dye my hair because as a child I wasn’t allowed to do anything to my hair. So now that I’m older, I enjoy the freedom that is dying my hair. I don’t dye it any drastic color; usually just a darker brown, then it fades and I dye it again. Sure, it’s not always the best dye job since I’m doing it myself, and I have messed up once before, but it’s never that bad.
However, this dye job on Friday was a COMPLETE AND UTTER FAIL!
I wanted to go a darker brown than I had been before, so when my roommate, my friend, and I went shopping at Target, I asked their opinion. I had a dark brown picked out, but they said it would be too dark and to go for a lighter color and picked one out. I bought it and dyed my hair.
Here’s the kicker, though…the color was called–DARK BROWN BLACK. Yep, I know. You’d think I would’ve read the black and put it back. Nope. I trusted the box and how the color looked on it.
So, when I dyed my hair Friday, it’s no surprise that my hair turned out what I like to identify as “witch’s wig black”. Yeah, you know those wigs they sell at Halloween, the ones that are frizzy and pitch black? That was my hair. Needless to say, my pale freckled skin does not agree with black.
In my experience, here are the things I learned:
1-If the box says black, it will turn out BLACK! Not the color it looks like on the box.
2-Mix together blue dawn dish soap and the Neutrogena Purifying shampoo to lighten your hair. It doesn’t lighten it a lot, but it did help a little.
3-Immediately give your hair a hot oil treatment. This helps to draw out some of the color.
Still not the color you wanted?…
4-STOP and just go to a hair salon. You only have one set of hair and don’t want to kill it with chemicals when there’s the chance you still might mess it up.
And that’s exactly what I did. The next morning, I looked up a random hair salon in Rock Hill that got great reviews. I called and they squeezed me in. However, the process took 4 HOURS! And they had to dye my hair twice! Once to go back to a weird blonde, then to the color I originally wanted.
So what I’m trying to say is, if you’re gunna dye your hair…make sure you know what you’re doing. It can be fun, and it can turn out really great. But, it can also turn out really bad. And then you might have to pay for a double dye!
-Shout out, though, to Jennifer at His & Her Hair Salon in Rock Hill. She did a great job with my hair!
Did you take pics?
Haha, no! I did not want to document that train wreck!
And remember, you can always call your Mom on a Bad Hair Day! Love ya.
After I initially commented I seem to have clicked the
-Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now whenever a comment is added I get four emails with the exact same comment.
Perhaps there is an easy method you are able to
remove me from that service? Cheers!
